Mother’s Day is such a lovely celebration. Nothing more joyous than the handmade gifts of little ones or the thoughtful choice of flowers or chocolates or any of a million other things a mom would love.
I’ve been thinking that we shouldn’t limit our celebration to our own mothers or grandmothers. There are a lot of women who have made our lives better: Teachers, neighbors, church members for example. Sometimes they don’t even have children but oh do they make a difference in the lives of the children they mother in one way or another.
So let’s think about this special day as Mothering Day. A way to to celebrate those women who aren’t on our birth certificates but have contributed in making the world a far more welcoming place if we had never known them.
